Candace Cameron Bure Will Star in "A Christmas Less Traveled" on Great American Family in 2024

Anticipation for Great American Christmas 2024 builds with GAF's announcement that Candace Cameron Bure and Eric Johnson will star in a new holiday movie called A Christmas Less Traveled. The movie will premiere in November.

Bure has previously headlined A Christmas...Present and My Christmas Hero for Great American Family--both huge wins for fans and the network. She is also slated to star in The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker, which is set to air in September.

What is A Christmas Less Traveled About?

According to a news release from Great American Family, here's the synopsis for A Christmas Less Traveled:

The Dine and Dash diner has a stack of mounting unpaid bills, forcing its owner, Desi (Bure) to sell her beloved, mint condition, cherry red 1964 Ford F-100, a gift from her deceased father. As Desi visits the vintage truck one last time, she discovers a recorded message from her dad on an old audio cassette. Desi’s Dad’s voice sends her and “Old Red” out to retrace her family’s most memorable moments one last time. Just as the journey begins, Desi meets Greyson (Johnson) who offers her a generous payment in exchange for a ride to “close the most important deal” of his life. Little do Desi and Greyson realize the less traveled road will reveal more about each of them than they could have ever known.

A Christmas Less Travelled is a Syrup Studios production in association with Candy Rock Entertainment being presented on Great American Family network under the Candace Cameron Bure presents banner.

Bill Abbott and Candace Cameron Bure Talk About A Christmas Less Traveled

“Filmmakers have been inspired by road trips for as long as movies have been made,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “In A Christmas Less Traveled, viewers will go on a scenic journey with our characters to celebrate Christmas in communities and with acquaintances, treasuring every heartfelt moment of discovery or remembrance in a vintage vehicle that seems to magically know all the right places to stop."

A Christmas Less Travelled gently challenges us to truly embrace every moment we share with our families, friends and loved ones. It reminds us that forgiving ourselves and others is the pathway to set ourselves free,” added Candace Cameron Bure.

A Christmas Less Traveled Brings This to Mind...

When the new movie title was announced, my first question was whether it was derived from the famous poem by Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken. If you're not familiar with the poem, here it is:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost was an American poet who often wrote about realistic depictions of rural life, so it would be on brand for Great American Family to work a title that alludes to the iconic poet.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. Either way, it fits. The poem is about coming to a fork in the road, choosing a path that seems less traveled, and then reflecting on how that decision impacted the speaker's life. Similarly, I suspect Desi and Greyson will find that taking the "road less traveled" will make all the difference in their lives, too.

A Christmas Less Traveled is the 4th Movie Great American Family Has Announced in the Christmas 2024 Lineup

While we know Great American Family will have far more Christmas movies to announce in the coming months, here are the ones they have shared so far:

  • A Prince in Paradise 2: A Royal Proposal starring Rhiannon Fish and Mitchell Bourke

  • A Christmas Less Traveled starring Candace Cameron Bure and Eric Johnson

It's only April, but things are shaping up for another wonderful Christmas season on Great American Family!
